Overview about Biperiden

Biperiden is a drug usually used for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease. It is a chronic condition that causes tremor, bradykinesia, postural stability and rigidity. It is an anticholinergic that helps to correct the chemical imbalance which is found to be the causal reason for Parkinson-type disorders.Though biperiden is found to be useful in treating other diseases, it is more popular in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease. Moreover, it is also used to alleviate the side effects caused by medication.

Few factors must be considered before the use of biperiden which has been discussed below.

  • During pregnancy or breast-feeding, biperiden is not recommended to be used.
  • While on medication, the use of biperiden must be limited and the physician must be consulted.
  • People who are allergic to medicines or certain food or substances must be careful while using biperiden.
  • Patients suffering from irregular heartbeat, epilepsy, enlarged prostate, or the ones who have a history of issues caused by medicines must limit the use of biperiden.
  • People who are at a risk of developing glaucoma should think twice before using biperiden.
  • It should also be noted that certain medicines might react with biperiden causing adverse effects.

Biperiden may be taken with food in case of stomach issues, otherwise it is safe for use with or without food. If a dose of the drug is missed, it must be taken immediately and also, taking more than two doses at once is not advisable. It is also noteworthy that biperiden might cause dizziness, blurred vision, light heartedness or drowsiness. Therefore, work which need concentration must be avoided after intake of it. Also, alcohol or exercise do not go well with biperiden. Its use must be cautiously supervised in case of children. Taking care of these small things helps in making the use of biperiden healthier and safer.
