Nividia Corporation, a Chip designer based out of the United States, revealed two novel products – “Jetson Xavier”, an AI-based computer and “Nvidia Issac”, a new developer platform, in an effort to power autonomous robots.
CEO and founder of Nvidia, Jensen Huang said that AI is one of the most powerful technology force of the current time. He stated that at the initial phase, it will let new levels of software automation which promotes productivity in several industries. Furthermore, the upcoming AI in amalgamation with actuators and sensors, will be the core brain of a new generation of autonomous machines. He believes that there will be billions of intelligent machines in home delivery, manufacturing, warehouse logistics and much more.
Globally, Jetson Xavier is considered to the first computer which is fabricated exclusively for the robotics segment. It is attained by putting together 9 billion transistors and processing mechanisms which includes in-depth learning processors and accelerators for static video and images, proficient of rendering more than 30 trillion operations per second (TOPS) of compute, all of this by mere consumption of 30 watts of power. Specs-wise, it offers 6 kinds of superior-performance processors such as – an eight-core ARM64 CPU, a Volta Tensor Core GPU, an image processor dual NVDLA deep learning accelerators, a video processor and a vision processor. The price quoted for one Jetson Xavier developer kit combined with access to the Isaac platform is $1299.
Isaac Robotics software – “Nvidia Isaac” – the developer platform is a bunch of software tools which includes application programming interfaces (APIs) in order to link to sensors and 3D cameras. Also, to an archive of Artificial Intelligence accelerators in order to keep the algorithms going smooth and a novel simulation surrounding “Isaac Sim” for testing and training bots in a virtual space.
Huang said, "AI, in combination with sensors and actuators, will be the brain of a new generation of autonomous machines."
A company called Fellow, are already using chips made by Nvidia in order to power robots. Nvidia also declared an association with the Ministry of Science and Technology, Taiwan, in an urge to improve Taiwan’s AI potentials. This associated is predicted to expand in the next decade by toughening local in-depth learning mechanisms in the country.
